The original b/w photographs, presumably taken by Mr Brindley, are of original locations in and around Dorchester that inspired Hardy's settings in the novel. They include The King's Arms, the Maumbury Rings and the various cottages and paths referred to in the novel. Typed references and information about each place are pasted to the verso of the leaf. These photographs do not feature in Lea, 1913.
