The silver heraldic stamp of the arms of the College on the binding shows that it was acquired in 1596/7 and it is in the list of books given in the Audit Book as bought then for £0.26.8. (Audit accounts; see also Birley, Notes on bindings in College Library I, 18).

Blind-panelled brown calf binding, possibly French, ca. 1560; outer frame of a roll with heads in medallians, foliage, and a cherub's head with elongated neck signed "M P"; inner frame with a diaper pattern; in the central panel two stamps of a rose and one of a foliated ornament; fleuron stamps at outer corners of inner frame; silver-tooled armorial stamp of Eton College impressed over the panel; seven raised bands; spine decoration formed of blind fillets with diapering at head and tail; remains of two pairs of clasps; chain hole.
