Provenance

Binding bears the name 'G. du Faing', together wtih the motto 'sans changement'. This presumably is Gilles du Faing, c.1560-1633, seigneur du Faing. The style of binding supports this provenance, and suggests the volume was bound in the ealy 16th century, and the prints added by a later owner.

17th century stiff parchment case; silver? tooled border of leaf roll, with rose fleurons at each corner; gold tooled letters "S" and "O" at each corner, with name ".G.DV.FAING." and motto ".SANS.CHANGEMENT.", and strapwork centrepiece; holes for ties; yapp edges; gilt and gauffered edges; gold tooled fleurons on spine; five sewn bands; black morocco spine label with gold tooled letters.
