17th century French light brown calf; gold tooled double fillet border, with inner frame of double fillet and single fillet; initials of Valentin Conrart at each corner, with four S fermé around each monogram; armorial device gold stamped in centre of each board; identical monogram used in compartments of spine; spine also decorated with gold tooled double fillet and fleurons; rebacked in 19th century[?] calf, with older spine reattached; gold tooled roll on board edge and turn-in; 18th century marbled endpapers.
