Contents: This work is an introduction to the astronomical theories of Hipparchus and Ptolemy in which the author describes the mathematical theory of the planets based on epicycles and on eccentrics. The term hypotyposis was sometimes used in place of the more familiar hypothesis : this work contains a discussion of the reality of celestial objects.
