Note

Writings, correspondence, printed material, photographs, and other material documenting the early writing life of Susan Hill. The bulk of the papers are writings: novels, plays, short stories, and other writings. Much of Susan Hill's published fiction between 1957 and 1983 is represented here, as are two novels and two children's stories from 1984 to 1992. Also present in the collection is a theatre set model of the first production of The Woman in Black.

Note

The most extensive correspondence is with Pamela Hansford Johnson, who served as a mentor to Hill early in her career, and Hill's publisher Hamish Hamilton, Ltd.
