Label

Hayes Ward studied at the Royal College of Art (2004-06) and won a Crafts Council Development Award in 2007. Her intricately sculptural jewellery is constructed from a multitude of tiny blocks. This brooch combines ancient and cutting-edge techniques. A model was built from variously angled cubes using 3D-software. Three-dimensional rapid-prototyping in wax produced different line textures which, once cast in aluminium by the traditional lost wax process, reflect light in various tones of grey. 'An important aspect of my designs and research is to harness machine marks and exploit them as an aesthetic.' - Jo Hayes Ward.
